This time with less of a hangover, we walked up the path to the cave at a more reasonable hour, crack of noon, Matienzo’s official caving time.
We went straight to the big chamber above the muddy, bouldery slope and down the small passage Chris had seen on the previous visit. He was right by not going down it without a rope, as immediately after the calcited slope there was a sharp four metre drop. This, of course, gave us hope, thinking we had found the connection to the other side of the valley, but, alas!, the small chamber at the bottom of the pitch choked almost immediately.
Back up we went and had a good look around the big chamber and under the big boulders as we surveyed. There was a very tight rift that Chris bravely went through, but it again choked after 10 metres.
Once we tied in the survey of that chamber to the rest of the survey, we had one last look around the boulders of the Jaws 19 chamber. We did find a possible way on, where the air feels slightly cooler, but it needed bolting, so we’ll have to wait until next time to find out if it goes or not.
So, I guess I now have even more survey to draw…
