Membership / Join Us

Membership of the BRCC is open to anyone over the age of 18, who lives anywhere; the majority of our members are based in North West England (Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria).

We have information below for people that are new to the sport (novices) and those who are already active cavers. Further notes and information are also available below.

 Novice Cavers

Membership of the club for a year is £17, along with £17 for Public Liability Insurance. This rate applies to joining in Jan/Feb/Mar – the Membership Pack contains details about reduced prices for those joining later in the year. (The membership year starts in January)

As a member (or prospective member) you will be granted access to our forum where you will be able to ask questions and find out about suitable meets.

You will be given the opportunity to attend easier / novice trips to learn the basics of caving. Beyond that we will also provide basic training on ladder work, SRT, knots / rigging etc.

Shared knowledge and experience of current members – many have been active for a good few years, some longer still (well in to double figures).

Very active club, averaging 50 trips per year, with a mixture of easier and harder trips on weekends and midweek evenings.

Reasonable and ever growing collection of magazines and surveys in the library, including occasional newsletters (certain articles / documents available online.)
We have produced a Fact Sheet which provides some information on what is needed on your first trip.
The British Caving Association has produced an A4 leaflet : So You Want To Go Caving? which provides further information.

 Active Cavers

Membership of the club is £17. To become a member of the club you will need Public Liability Insurance; if you are a member of another club you may already have it and you just need to supply us with details of this. Otherwise it will be £17 per year extra (reduced rates available for joining later in the year).

The club has membership of the British Caving Association, for access to permits, publications etc.

We organise trips (about 50 a year) to a wide variety of caves / potholes. From the easy to the hard to the downright obscure!

Exploration / digging is occasionally undertaken, we have a number of basic tools and bits of equipment available for use. As of mid-2013 we have two active digs.

Website updated regularly with meets information, and brief notes (or occasionally full reports) plus photos of previous trips.

We also have a forum for meets, club and other topics (part public, mostly for members only). It also contains; information and links on cave access in the UK, listings of club huts across the UK and what caves they are near and anything else of relevance.

A list of our libraries contents – including members-only-access to club newsletters, online surveys, rigging topos and various other digitisable documents.
