My only caving at the moment is being done vicariously through facebook videos and the Black Rose forum. Good to hear thgat some people arestill getting underground.
Maybe it was the car keys that prevented Mr Ritchie making it through…
It was the massive bags (and knowing there was worse to come) that made me and Pete turn back. How many bags did you have the tackle in? (And did you intend to rig the whole cave?) We’ll done though!fatometer must be bloody tight!
Thanks for a fine trip chaps! Been waiting about 20 years to do that route! Worth it though as the view going down to the ledge is one of the finest I’ve seen. The deviation rope definitely needs replacing! It’s not exactly a small deviation either.
Myself and Don had a very pleasant little jaunt down Short drop to Gavel. We had intended to bottom Gavel as well but the through trip, though easy, took a little longer than expected and I spent too long faffing taking photos (now on facebook) of the rather fine Glasfurd’s Chamber.
My light went out on the way out of the crawl as well…in fact the bloody battery pack came off completely (thankfully only at the very end so was easily retrievable)…there may be some merit to the Don method after all…or I need to get a little fitter so I don’t end up thrashing my head against the ceiling like a rabid seal as a result of my exertions.
Congrats Chris and Carol! Look forward to hearing about the wedding as well!
Especially when you don’t have to carry ropes!
If Rob bottled it…don’t think I’l ever be paying a visit!
Pretty sure I reversed it. I was thinner then though!
I could have saved you the trouble…me and Pete went to broken finger several years ago….made it a similar distance in! Think I got to the pitch head without tackle…you definitely cannot put srt gear on there. Could probably go through with just cowstails and harness then put descender on once hanging on cows tails.
We decided you really needed 3 or 4 people so that ropes could be packed in more manageable bags…we had 2 massive ones packed to rig the whole cave and getting them through the entrance crawl looked highly unlikely.
Haha, sounds like you had a fun trip!
Agree with the pippikin comparison. I got my lardy arse through so think everyone would have fit but it’s pretty intimidating.
Twas a good trip. And indeed I appear to have 5 crabs that aren’t mine. 3 with silver tape, one bigger one and a red one (presumably Mr Sharman’s devi crab)
