Danby Level Caverns – 28/02/26

After having seen the cncc website suggesting the description was updated to this mine/cave system it was a timely reminder that I’d never visited. A trip was organised for late February, just in case the seemingly never ending gloom and dampness of this winter continued.

Just myself and Ron for this adventure and we met at the junction near Whaw and soon headed up the hill to above the spoil heap, where the entrance is located, just off the track.

Once in we made easy progress all the way to the forehead, where the first bit of cave is located. The cave is rather snug, it was a definite no from Ron and I inserted myself in a few metres and retreated. The biggest bit of maze cave evaded us, so we backtracked and explored all the various mine passages to make the trip more worthwhile.
