Having heard all about the spectacular non-Berger caves in the Vercors, I was very excited about this one. Nobody else wanted to go caving; they must have read the description more closely than we did.
A roped ascending traverse led into about 45 minutes of crawling and stooping, varying from dusty to muddy. At the end there was a window in the cliffside and a 30m pull-through pitch down to the ground.
The fun began after we left the cave though, as we were about 1000m higher than the place where the others had arranged to pick us up. We therefore made a three hour descent, very grateful for the iron handrails en route.

We also made a river crossing and visited ‘briefly’ another cave near the bottom. I think as we said at the time, we had far more fun getting down from the cave to the meeting spot than the actual caving itself. I think it was only 600m higher up by the way, so equiv just beyond camp one.
