It’s interesting you met Simon Beck in there, it’s almost as if he lives in there.
If you look on youtube and look up Mossdale, Simon has chronicled his incredibly numerous trips in there. Last time I looked he was up to 100!

How wide is the Fatometer? You’ve got to wonder how many people have actually got to the bottom on Broken Finger. I can’t imagine it’s that many.

Yes, that helmet anecdote is perfectly true. It slipped from my grasp and thankfully into Alex’s lap.
One thing to mention, the cave is virtually doable with SRT kits on the whole way but the short section between the 7th and 8th (I think) pitch is tight with SRT kit on and my chest jammer made it very tight and I’m about the same weight I was the last time I did it 12 years ago.

I’ve only been there once before and on that occasion, a deep pool awaited me. This time though I got off the rope and managed to have a proper look around. Still seriously windy down there though.

At the bottom of the second pitch, not far ahead there is a left turn into a small chamber. At the top of this is a smallish muddy hole which leads into another chamber. In here is the Blue Room – a very interesting blue calcite formation on 2 walls, worth a look.

A great cave for a short trip. I fancy a return at some point.

I enjoyed it, really good work out.

Your maths is bad Alex, I think it should read 3 hours 15 minutes. What’s 15 minutes between old friends eh?
It was a mud fest, my stuff is literally unrecognisable. So glad I don’t have to clean those ropes lol!
Went for a pint in the Martin afterwards as it was the one place where we could nip to the toilet to clean our faces without anyone seeing us !

Great evening with lovely weather. Ended annoyingly with a flat tyre outside Dunc’s house at 12.30 am! Managed to change the wheel and get on my way to be greeted with the M60 closed! Bah. Got home at 1.30 am, I think.

Just read our report to cliff force in March 2007. We were definitely repelled by the sump. I remember we felt an ominous sense of doom in the room if dangling doom also, strange place!

Great report Don. I agree with Alex, I’ve done trapdoor in pretty wet conditions and I think it’s ok (from what I remember).
